Turkish Maritime Sector Inventory Report
Turkish Maritime Sector Economic Value and Employment Inventory. Certain sectors shape national economies. This project was undertaken to determine the economic value and employment generated by maritime transport and ports within the logistics and transportation sector, which guides the development of all sectors in our country, fisheries and aquaculture within the agricultural sector, shipbuilding within the manufacturing sector, tourism and marinas, and finance, insurance and other sectors associated with all these activities. Initially, the aim was to calculate economic value and employment levels through a WEB-based inventory survey of DTO members. However, anticipating delays in obtaining the survey results, an internationally accepted methodology for developing an economic value model was selected. This model, together with data from reliable sources, provided the overall picture. The “Leontief Input-Output Model” combined with the “Oxford Economics Model,” used in many countries to calculate the contribution of maritime activities to the economy, was us

Inside the project
Focus
In an uncertain future, which priorities should guide today's decisions?
This project focused on placing the organization's research / analysis needs within a strategic framework. The organization was seeking a way of working that connected its future with today's decisions.
The account of this project was structured around the organization's own definition of its needs.
Turkish Maritime Sector Economic Value and Employment Inventory. Certain sectors shape national economies.
Future analysis becomes a guide only when teams translate it into their own decision-making contexts.
Scope
We worked to calculate the economic value and employment associated with maritime transport, ports, fisheries and aquaculture, shipbuilding, tourism, marinas and related sectors. Anticipating delays in the results of a web-based inventory of the organization's members, we used an economic value model combined with input-output analysis for the calculations. We compiled data from face-to-face interviews, academic publications, reports, databases and industry research sources.
Implementation
HOW WAS SCENARIO PLANNING USED?
We used possible futures not as a single forecast but as alternative scenarios against which today's decisions could be tested. The aim was to make foresight the language of decision-making meetings.
Rather than predicting the future, a stronger starting point is to design together how we will remain resilient across possible futures.
The journey we designed
- 01EXPLOREA situation map was developed by considering the organization's real needs, current ways of working and external signals together.
- 02REFRAMEA comprehensive situation analysis was conducted using field data, sector signals and internal perspectives.
- 03BRING IT INTO THE ORGANIZATIONThe findings were translated into a strategic framework the organization could use to make decisions.
