Innovation Development Program
We visited Kardemir, Türkiye's 25th-largest industrial company, which produces railway wheels, railway rails and wire rod. Together with Kardemir R&D employees, we focused on creative product development and problem-solving in railway technology. Prof. Dr. C. Ruhi Kaykayoğlu delivered New Trends in R&D Center Management on 4 September 2021 and Problem-Solving with TRIZ on 20-21 September 2021. Y. Inside the project
Focus
How can creativity move from an individual talent to an organizational capacity?
The Kardemir project focused on addressing a training need through creative thinking practices. Participants worked within their own product and business contexts.
Creativity is not an innate trait but a way of working that grows under the right conditions. This project focused on establishing those conditions.
We visited the company that produces railway wheels, railway rails and wire rod.
The bottleneck for creativity in organizations was usually not a lack of ideas but the absence of a working environment where ideas could be protected and developed.
Scope
We worked with R&D staff on creative product development and problem-solving in railway technology. We delivered training on emerging trends in R&D center management, problem-solving with TRIZ, and creative thinking and design-oriented approaches.
Implementation
HOW WERE CREATIVE TECHNIQUES USED IN THIS PROJECT?
We used creativity techniques not as showmanship but as tools teams tested on their own problems. Each technique was applied to a real product or process problem.
What brings creativity into an organization is not individual talent but a working environment where ideas can emerge safely.
The journey we designed
- 01EXPLOREA situation map was developed by considering the organization's real needs, current ways of working and external signals together.
- 02REFRAMEParticipants practiced creative problem solving and application through their own real work problems.
- 03BRING IT INTO THE ORGANIZATIONA follow-through plan was developed with teams to connect the methods learned to daily workflows.
